Cardinals WR Boldin asks to be traded (AP)
Arizona Cardinals wide receiver Anquan Boldin asked to be traded, saying he doesn’t feel his situation can be resolved and declaring he has no relationship with coach Ken Whisenhunt. “I’m a football player. That’s about it,” Boldin said Tuesday when asked to characterize his dealings with the coach these days.

When the Minnesota Vikings put receiver Troy Williamson on the market earlier this week, the Jacksonville Jaguars were the team that showed the greatest interest. Reports are now indicating that a trade between the Vikings and Jaguars is all but complete for the former first-round pick. The only thing holding the trade back is the fact that teams must wait until Friday at midnight EST to finalize it.
Williamson caught 18 passes for 240 yards and one touchdown last season. Considering the numbers that receiver Braylon Edwards put up this season in Cleveland, since he was taken a few picks ahead of Williamson, the Vikings feel that it’s time to give up on him. However, Williamson’s potential technically may have been limited in Minnesota due to group of ineffective quarterbacks. After all — since Randy Moss left the team, who has been effective?
Jacksonville will get: Troy Williamson
Minnesota will get: 6th-Round Draft Pick
The trade would also re-unite Williamson with former Vikings head coach Mike Tice, who is now an assistant coach for the Jaguars.
Ginn Jr. aims to be Dolphins’ No. 1 WR (AP)
Having a reliable quarterback is making all the difference for Ted Ginn Jr. For the first time in his NFL career, the Miami Dolphins’ speedy receiver is living up to his high draft billing — albeit in the preseason. The arrival of quarterbacks Chad Pennington and rookie Chad Henne has given a boost to Ginn, who many had considered one of the biggest busts of the previous Dolphins regime.
More knee surgery for Broncos C Nalen (AP)
Five-time Pro Bowl center Tom Nalen is headed back to the operating table. The only player left from the Denver Broncos’ Super Bowl teams of the late 1990s, Nalen needs another operation on his left knee after surgery in June failed to put him back on the field without pain. The 37-year-old Nalen will undergo another arthroscopic surgery on his left knee on Thursday, said coach Mike Shanahan, who…

Tom Brady scoffed when told Wednesday that New York Giants receiver Plaxico Burress guaranteed New York will beat Brady’s undefeated New England team in Sunday’s Super Bowl.
“We’re only going to score 17 points?” Brady said before chuckling about it. “OK. Is Plax playing defense? I wish he had said 45-42 and gave us a little credit for scoring more points.”
When the playoffs started, I already had the Super Bowl matchup that I wanted to see in the back of my mind. That game featured the Indianapolis Colts defending their title against the Green Bay Packers. It would’ve been a battle of my favorite quarterbacks playing the game today — Peyton Manning versus Brett Favre — in a showdown that I’ve been waiting years to see. Neither of my teams made the postseason. The Colts won’t have the chance to defend their title. Favre may never get the Packers as far as he did this year before he retires. And yet, the Super Bowl we’ve been given may turn out to be the best contest imaginable. (more…)
Locker back on field for Washington
Much to his relief, Jake Locker no longer has to be a spectator. Washington’s star sophomore quarterback returned to practice this week after missing 11 days with a hamstring strain that had many fans concerned about his availability for the Huskies opener on Aug. 30 at Oregon. “I don’t expect to be anything less” than 100 percent, Locker told reporters on Tuesday.
Simms suspended 4 games for breaking team rules
Louisville quarterback Matt Simms was suspended for the team’s first four games of the season by coach Steve Kragthorpe on Tuesday for breaking team rules. Simms, a redshirt freshman, was competing with Tyler Wolfe for the backup spot behind starter Hunter Cantwell. Simms is the son of former New York Giants quarterback Phil Simms and the brother of Tampa Bay Buccaneers quarterback Chris Simms. Matt Simms will be eligible to return to the team when the Cardinals play at Memphis on Oct. 10.footballcoachingclub.com’>10.footballcoachingclub.com’>10.
Rams RB Jackson ends holdout (AP)
St. Louis Rams running back Steven Jackson ended his holdout on Wednesday while his agent continues negotiations for a new contract. Jackson, the centerpiece of the team’s offense, is entering the final year of a deal he signed as a first-round pick in 2004. The Rams cut off negotiations in late July on the first day of training camp after Jackson’s agent turned down a deal the team said would have…
